FAQs
Q: What is documentary family photography?
A: It’s all about real life. I capture your family as you are–messy, joyful, silly, tender, and everything in between.
Q: How is this different from traditional family photography?
A: Traditional sessions are usually all posed and polished. Documentary photography is the opposite–it’s relaxed and focused on the little random moments that really tell your family story.
Q. What happens during a session?
A. You just live your life! I’ll hang out with your family while you spend time together doing whatever you’d like to do. Sometimes I offer direction if people need help loosening up. I might say things like “Do that again” if I wasn’t fast enough on my feet or “Let’s try this.” But mainly it’s you guys doing your thing and me documenting the magic as you go.
Q: How should we prepare?
A: No need to clean the house top to bottom or pick out matching outfits. Just be yourselves and wear whatever feels like you. Comfy jeans, cozy pajamas, superhero capes–if it’s part of your family’s world–let’s get it in the photos! It helps to have a few activities planned. I’m happy to help with ideas.
Q: How many images will we get?
A: Depending on how long the session is, around 50+
Q: Do you edit the photos?
A: Yup! Every image is individually edited for color, cropping and simple touchups to reflect my style–natural, timeless, and true to the moment. I don’t alter people’s bodies or create things that aren’t real.
Q: How long until we see our online gallery?
A: 3-4 weeks!
Q: Why invest in this kind of photography?
A: Because life changes fast. These aren’t just pretty pictures–they’re memories of how your family feels right now. You’ll want to look back and remember the everyday moments that make up your real story.
Q: Do you offer prints?
A. Absolutely. I believe photos should be seen and held not just sit on a hard drive. I offer beautiful prints that last for generations.
Q: My kids are wild and messy–what if it doesn’t go well?
A: Perfect! That’s real life–and that’s exactly what I want to capture. The joy, the chaos, the laughter, the meltdowns.. it all tells your story.
Q: My house is far from perfect. Does this matter?
A: Years from now you won’t care at all what your house looked like. You’ll be so focused on enjoying the family relationships photographed.
Q: Can we just get one shot of everybody smiling and looking at the camera for grandparents?
A: Sure! Although not the main focus, we can take a couple of minutes to do a traditional portrait.
Q: How do I book?
A: Click here! Can’t wait to meet you!
