Peru 2019

We had a beautiful trip to Cusco, Peru and surrounding areas, the last week in April. I struggled to choose which pictures to include here. I took plenty of tourist type pics of my great travel companions—my husband and inlaws—that will definitely go into our personal book, as well as pics of food or foliage that I want to remember. For these here, I chose to share the kind of images I love to create most as a photographer: people in their surroundings. I threw in a few tourist spots as well.

Are you dizzy? Haha. I had a blast, as I’m sure you can tell. The end of April was a great time to go to Peru because it’s the end of rainy season so it’s still pretty green and lush but they said it doesn’t last much longer. Also, it wasn’t at all crowded like it will be in the summer. Some other perks to the trip: it’s only a one hour time difference from Utah and we didn’t have to use converters for our electronics.

We didn’t get altitude or stomach sickness, which is fairly common for tourists there. We didn’t even take altitude sickness medicine, but went the natural route and it worked so I recommend it (although I’m sure it doesn’t work for everyone). Every day we took chlorophyll drops and a supplement called gingko balboa and those seemed to do the trick for altitude sickness. As for stomach, we were told to avoid any and all lettuce (even if it was just a garnish), strawberries, and pork of any kind. We also only drank bottled water and only used bottled water to brush our teeth. Worked great.

I highly recommend a trip to Cusco, Peru! Such a dream come true, although all travel for me is. And lastly, there’s a pic of us below in the cutest little village.
